Restriction in the using of the 5GHz band in Côte d’Ivoire

During the working session convened by the ARTCI, which CONSULT IT! attended, we have been informed that, frequencies ranges within the 5 GHz band, now have some restrictions. Two of them, are no longer allowed and only one is available for telecommunications operators.

In Côte d’Ivoire, the frequencies used for SRD’s have been modified, in particular the 5 GHz band. In fact, the frequencies ranges 5.250-5.350 GHz, 5.470-5.725 GHz and 5.725-5.825 GHz are no longer allowed, for the marketing throughout the Ivorian territory, because it was requisitioned and will be used for other purposes. According to information obtained from the Autorité de Régulation des Télécommunications/TIC de Côte d’Ivoire (ARTCI), The 5.470-5.725 GHz frequencies range is allocated to the national security services. The 5.150 -5.250 GHz frequencies range, it is allowed for stakeholders who wish to use it.
These provisions taken by the Ivorian regulatory body supersede all the previous ones. Thus, all equipment operating with the restricted frequencies bands above-mentioned, that have already been approved in accordance with the foregoing, are no longer accepted in Côte d’Ivoire. Therefore, the removal of these equipment, throughout the national territory, has been requested to various
customers. Also, the certificates of the equipment that are concerned must be revised in accordingly to the new provisions of the regulatory authority body.
The ARTCI, in collaboration with l’Agence Ivoirienne de Gestion des Fréquences (AIGF), invites all the telecommunications operators to comply with the recommendations on the 5 GHz band.
We recall that for the practice of approval in Côte d’Ivoire, the European test reports are highly recommended; mainly those from accredited laboratories labelled with the ISO 17023 mark.
