MACRA & MRA sign a memorandum of understanding to address concerns with the quality of telecom equipment.
A memorandum of understanding is a formal document that outlines a negotiation and agreement between parties. On July 17th, The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA). The goal of the MoU is to assist both parties to achieve their respective mandates, one of which is the type approval of electronic communications equipment.
MACRA shared its concerns about the amount of sub-standard quality of telecommunications equipment currently in the country – including mobile phones, tablets, and laptops – that do not meet local or international standards. The MoU hopes to provide a solution to this issue by helping to monitor and ensure that any equipment that enters the country meets the mandatory standards.
Making sure that your company’s equipment meets a country’s standards is more important than ever.
